Unlike standard solid wheels, the outer circumference of each Mecanum wheel is fitted with multiple freely rotating passive rollers arranged at a 45° angle relative to the wheel axle. During operation, friction between the rollers and the ground can be decomposed into longitudinal driving force and lateral translational force. Each single wheel delivers diagonal thrust, overcoming the limitation of conventional wheels that only travel along a single direction.
The machine adopts an industry-standard four-wheel diagonal layout, where diagonally paired wheels share identical roller inclination angles. The control system precisely adjusts the rotating speed and rotation direction of the four wheels to counteract opposing force components and superpose thrust towards the target direction. This enables a full range of motions: forward and backward travel, lateral side shifting, diagonal movement, and in-place 360° zero-radius rotation.
